SDA Champs

SDA Champs report from George Jones.

You just can’t fault the SDA, not even the NPS series can boast two race venues with chair lift access. After last seasons race at Glencoe being cancelled due to bad weather every one was keen to get back this year and have a proper go at this steep and challenging coarse. The top section of the track is fast and flowing with loose gravely corners, the lower part of the coarse steepens up with the rock slabs and boulders becoming more exposed as the riders cut down through the soft peat.

The rain held off for practice on Saturday and most riders got a good number of runs, although I don’t think any one got a clean one. As this was the Scottish champs only Scottish riders could take the win and the generous prizes donated by chain reaction cycles. This was a two run event with the fastest time counting. Race day saw the sun make an appearance (that’s three sunny SDA’s in a row). First runs were a mixed bag, some went for a steady safe one, others went too hard and some were plain lucky. The track dried out considerably for second runs but deep breaking bumps were opening up. Some riders were able to take advantage of the drying conditions or perhaps they just stayed upright! There were a few notable absences this weekend due to the clash with the Mega but the racing was none the worse for it. Joe Barns looked good all weekend and did enough on his first run to take victory. In the woman’s it was down to Jamie Mart to take the champs jersey aboard her new Session 88.
